University of Canterbury
Melissa is currently a Contracts Advisor at the University of Canterbury, establishing and managing research and commercial contracts. However, Melissa has spent most of her research management time in the Land of Bidding – navigating funding systems, interpreting guidelines, and wrangling with submission portals and PIs as deadlines rapidly approach. She started out as a research scientist at CSIRO Australia, then discovered commercialisation while working at a UK University. This lead to a business development role at GNS Science (a New Zealand Crown Research Institute) and her discovery of, and move into, research management. She has over a dozen years’ experience in the New Zealand funding system and has extensive experience in pre- and post-award processes.
