Dr Hannah Clarke - Senior Director of Pre-clinical Research and Education at ACT Health is responsible for the strategic management of resources and education programs supporting the activities of research staff based at ACT Health sites. These include staff from ANU, University of Canberra, ACU and UNSW Canberra as well as health staff. She has 37 years' experience in health research, facility management; design; governance and service delivery. Her experience spans medical research and clinical delivery in public and private sectors. She enables improved research performance by providing support to research teams, identifying opportunities for research funding, providing equality facility services, and education support. Hannah has extensive human resource and financial management experience and has written successful funding bids for refurbishments; equipment and conferences. She is an innovative thinker and was nominated as one of the top 5 innovators in ACT Health.
Hannah is a visiting fellow at the ANU Medical School where she supports the medical school in recruitment and teaching activities.
Hannah actively promotes research through publications, training schemes and effective research support. She is Chair of Canberra Health Annual Research Meeting (CHARM). Her development of this meeting has seen it become a portfolio event for ACT Health. She and her team received an Australia Day Award from ACT Health.
She has been a member of ARMS for over 10 years and on the organising and program committees for the ARMS conferences since 2014. She was co-convenor for the 2019 meeting and is the Conference and Major Events Committee Convenor.
Hannah has established the Health and Medical specialist interest group with co-convenor Tam Nguyen. She has advocated for the inclusions of health and medical researchers and administrators based in government and health services and believes this untapped resource can add breadth and richness to ARMS members allowing translation of skills between sectors. Her mission is to integrate the learnings of research management in both groups and engage others in a common understanding for similarities and differences. She believes that improved understanding and opportunity to increase knowledge and accreditation in practice will strengthen the Society as it works with government and universities in a community of practice model. She is passionate about supporting the mental health of her community and a keen advocate for equity and diversity. She is an ACT Heath culture champion and trained mental health first aider.
Hannah has been an active member of the State Emergency Services since 2014 and lead the community education team for 2 and a half years. In 2020 ACT members were made citizens of the year due to the extraordinary conditions and workloads experienced. She says, "Being in the SES keels life real".
