Bibliometric and scientometric analyses of scholarly publications have been developed over the last 50 years to quantitatively evaluate the quality of research. It is now a well-established component of a number of national research assessment programs - from the U.K.’s Research Excellence Framework to Excellence in Research for Australia. Many international university ranking systems have also included bibliometric analyses in their methodologies. This interactive workshop, delivered by Dr Paul Wong from Squarcle Consulting, will explore the underlying analytical techniques in the context of a range of scenarios for the strategic management of institutional research performance including the use of lead and lagging indicators in measuring research performance and use of indicators in international university ranking schemes.
