Tania Tambiah (GAICD) is a recognised leader in Research Management (RM). She is currently an R&I Business Partner, RMIT University, and has held RM leadership positions in Melbourne, Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City. She will bring to the position of President-Elect a rich, long-term understanding of, and active contribution to, research ecosystems and the RM profession. Her experience and achievements in RM have been across the research enterprise and the researcher life-cycle, and have primarily focussed on formulating strategy; initiating frameworks for excellence and outreach; designing management structures; creating systems and networks; building professional teams; establishing effective researcher engagement; and developing and promoting RM best practice that is responsive to external changes and influences. She works across diverse executive teams, has access to leaders and best practice in RM through her international networks and has an applied understanding of research skills and a deep appreciation for research.
Tania is deeply committed to enhancing, advancing and promoting RM and its specialists across the global sector, has a sound understanding of matters pertaining to RM, and is a long-term contributor to a range of national and international professional initiatives. She strongly values and embodies diversity and equity, and endeavours to bring these values to her every action. She has been an ARMS member since 2003 and is committed to its mission and values. She has been a strong advocate of and a proud ambassador for the society since 2005 when she joined the NSW Chapter Committee and has continued to formally participate in its governance and initiatives.
Her current contributions to ARMS, other RM sister societies and the profession include being a Training Fellow for the ARMS Foundation Level Accreditation Program and co-authoring the Pre-Award Grant Processes module; being the ARMS Representative on the INORMS Working Group; and being the International Representative on the SRA International Awards Committee. She has been an ARMS Board Member for two terms, a Co-convenor for the Vic and NSW Chapters, and an Organising/Program Committee member, session chair, presenter and poster judge at ARMS and EARMA Conferences and INORMS Congresses.
The RM sector is going through a global shift to its ways of working, its professional future, and research focus and activity. Tania sees this as a time for innovative solutions and discovering hidden opportunities, and she will actively seek out initiatives that explore and support the profession to embrace this now and into the future. She believes it is her professional responsibility to continue to contribute to and enhance ARMS as a professional association that is receptive and responsive to the changes in the sector and create greater awareness and acknowledgement of the role RM professionals play in enabling research excellence at all levels. As the Society continues to expand its professional standing and ‘enable global research excellence’, she has the skills, experience, tenacity, commitment and passion to steward it to achieve positive impact in these new times via efficient means and sustainable solutions.
