Senior Grants Development Officer - closing 10 July 2020
The Opportunity
An exciting new opportunity has arisen in the Research Development team for a full-time Senior Grants Development Officer.
Working with the Research Development team at Telethon Kids Institute and reporting to the Manager of Grants and Research Development, this role is integral in providing research grants administration and development support.
The Role
This role will support research across the Institute, by focusing on providing research grants administration and development support within the Research Development (RD) team. Research Development is responsible for coordinating applications, and administering funds, for externally and internally funded research grants, fellowships, prizes and awards to build excellence in research which will improve the health and wellbeing of children.
Working with the Manager of Grants and Research Development and two existing Senior Grants Development Officers, the position will provide pro-active and timely assistance to researchers across the funding lifecycle. This includes advice on targeting the appropriate funding schemes, guidance through pre- and post-award application processes and, importantly, ensuring funding scheme conditions and guidelines are always adhered to. When necessary, the position will be involved in developing and implementing policy and procedures to effectively manage these activities.
In conjunction with the Manager, the position will be involved in the development and delivery of research development-related training workshops and seminars.
The position is a 3 year maximum term contract, with a possible extension subject to performance review and a re-assessment of the team's on-going needs. We will consider job-share arrangements and these should be noted in your cover letter.
Your Experience
To be successful in the role you will possess the following:
- A relevant graduate degree or equivalent knowledge and skills developed through professional experience in research administration and grant development, and/or equivalent combination of experience and education/training in administration with the tertiary education sector
- Comprehensive knowledge of national and state competitive health research grant opportunities from government and non-government sources, in particular NHMRC and ARC.
- Experience in grant management and administration.
- Proficiency in electronic grant management systems (e.g. NHMRC’s Sapphire & ARC’s Research Management System).
- Excellent organisational and time management skills including the ability to manage varied and conflicting demands to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills including interpersonal, verbal and written.
- High level project planning and organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to show initiative, work independently and also ability to work cooperatively with members of the team to accomplish joint tasks and common objectives.
- Ability to anticipate and resolve problems; be proactive and initiate action to deal with issues when they arise.
- High standard of proficiency in the use of computer software packages and demonstrated aptitude and ability to develop spreadsheets, databases and PowerPoint presentations.
