Director/Chair, Human Research Ethics Committee
OmniAdvisory Consulting/Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital
I am the Director of OmniAdvisory Consulting specialising in the relevant areas of clinical trials strategy development; human and animal ethics; research governance; corporate governance; and research integrity. I am also the chairperson of the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), the UQ HREC 'A', and a member of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service HREC. Much of my expertise was gained while working at the National Health and Medical Research Council on projects related to academic integrity, research misconduct, research governance and improving clinical trials in Australia. I hold a PhD in Genetics from the University of Edinburgh. I am a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. I will complete a Juris Doctor degree in November 2019.
I already have relevant board experience, being a past member of the Association of Biosafatey for Australia and New Zealand (ABSANZ), and currently a board member of the Mental Awareness Foundation, raising awareness of mental health issues. I am the chair of the sub-committee of Australian and New Zealand Standards Committee CH026-03, who have written and reviewed the standards for Safety in laboratories -Microbiological aspects, the latest version of which is currently being reviewed. I have interests in ethics, governance and microbiology, and have provided advice to several Go8 Universities on related matters.
My experience in issues related to the work and mission of ARMS as well as my previous board experience and imminent legal qualifications will be of value to the work of the ARMS Board in discharging its responsibilities under governance standards, as well as its legal obligations such as reporting and financial management.
