Director, Research Performance
Sian has been a strong advocate for the research management profession and is passionate in the promotion of research management as an essential contributing factor to research and research endeavours. She has worked in the profession for over 12 years in roles spanning pre and post award management, research strategy, research data and analysis, institutional Centre and Institute oversight, engagement and impact, research information management systems and national assessment frameworks. In her current role as Director, Research Performance for Monash University she is responsible for the institutional submissions to the Excellence for Research in Australia, Engagement and Impact Assessment, International Rankings and research related performance reporting. Sian has also previously worked extensively within the New Zealand sector, most recently as Research Strategy and Policy Manager at Massey University.
Sian is passionate about the development and advancement of the research management profession, with ARMS being a key strategic organisation with which to advance research management excellence and innovation within the Australasian region and internationally. Sian has been an active member of the ARMS community since joining in 2010. She has participated as a member of the New Zealand and Pacific Chapter between 2015 – 2016, a member of the ARMS conference organising committee in 2017 and is a current member of the Victorian Chapter since 2018.
Sian holds a Master of Business Administration, which included independent research on the implications of the Performance Based Research Fund on academic culture. This alongside her professional experience and strengths in strategic thinking, governance and performance monitoring could make a significant contribution in advancing the Society’s missions and goals.
