Margaret Jones has been the Director of the Office of Research and Innovation at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia, for over three years. The portfolios for which she is responsible include Research Grants and Contracts, Research Ethics, Collaboration and Innovation, Commercialisation and Knowledge Translation, Research Policies, Researcher Professional Development and Support, and Research Productivity collection, collation and reporting to external agencies.
A graduate of the University of Western Australia (UWA) with a Science Degree (Hons), Margaret completed her PhD in Molecular Biology at the University of Massachusetts in the US. Following a two year postdoctoral position at Monash University, she conducted research for the next decade at Prince Henry’s Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne, during which time she was awarded an NHMRC Career Development Award Fellowship, published more than 65 peer-reviewed journal articles and won more than $2 million in grant income.
Transitioning into Research Services at UWA, her career next took a leap over to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) where she worked as an independent Research Specialist, working with the UAE National Research Foundation, the Western Australian Trade Office, GEMS Education and Murdoch University (Dubai campus).
Her strategy to improve research performance is based on collaboration and providing a rich research environment in which researchers can thrive.
