Dr Bedrich Eckhardt transitioned into research management in 2023 and currently serves as an Assistant Grants Advisor in La Trobe University's Research Office. He provides pre- and post-award support for Category 1–4 grants, including opportunities from government, industry, and philanthropic sources, at all levels.
Before this, he spent two decades in translational oncology, researching aggressive breast cancers like inflammatory and triple-negative breast cancer. He led research teams at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre, and founded the Inflammatory Breast Cancer Network Foundation Australia, where he currently serves as interim Chair of the Board of Trustees.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he took on a role in clinical pathology at Austin Health, optimising molecular diagnostic testing of respiratory viruses, and established quality assurance/quality control protocols that improved sample turnaround time.
With expertise in both academia and industry, he now guides researchers in identifying grants, submitting applications, and managing post-award processes to secure funding for innovative research.
