Artificial Intelligence (AI) SIG meeting - 06 May 2025
ARMS members interested in artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for research management are warmly invited to attend the first meeting of the ARMS AI in Research Management SIG for 2025. Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Learn about of the SIG, its purpose and upcoming events for the year;
- Gain insights into how AI is being used in research management, including opportunities and risks; and
- Discuss and share experiences with available training on AI.
Please note that ARMS does not officially endorse any AI programs shared by participants. Members are encouraged to contact their employer to confirm which programs are authorized by their institution.
The SIG encourages collaboration and peer-to-peer interaction - bring your lunch and come along!

Presenters:
Dr Fotini Toso - RMIT University (SIG co-convenor)
Fotini Toso is the coordinator for the Design and Social Context ethics network at RMIT University, has a PhD in literature and is the founding convenor of the ARMS AI in Research Management SIG. Her current research interests include AI and Ethics from multiple perspectives including law, governance, research management and the humanities as well as the impact of AI on fiction and creative writing.
Dr Stephanie Black - Australian Resources & Energy Employer Association (AREEA)
Stephanie is the Policy and Programs Manager at the Australian Resources & Energy Employer Association (AREEA), managing several advisory boards and an extensive portfolio of initiatives. She holds tertiary qualifications in psychology (including a PhD), physics, management and work health safety, as well as professional certifications in computing, management, human factors and research management (ARMF). Stephanie is passionate about enhancing organisational performance and human wellbeing amidst increasing technological complexity and operational demands, which she expresses by serving on various committees, including co-convenor of the AI in Research Management SIG and founding Steering Committee Member of the Australian Computer Society WA AI SIG.
Dr Michaela (Mia) Jackson - The University of Melbourne
Michaela holds dual roles as both Senior Advisor, Education and Engagement at the University of Melbourne and Honorary Principal Research Fellow with RMIT’s School of Media and Communication. As a professional, she brings considerable experience in complex stakeholder engagement and communication strategies, across various sectors. Her academic research spans communication, ethics, and health and social issues. Adopting a critical lens she has published on the intersection of AI, public relations and social justice, and the role of digital technologies in behaviour change initiatives. With Drs Black and Toso, Michaela is a co-convenor of the AI in Research Management SIG.
