Success rates can vary significantly based on the specific grant program, research area, and individual circumstances. The basics for being successful are to adhere to guidelines and to continuously improve grant-writing strategies such as identifying the right funder and having a clear and concise proposal. However, we were curious to test if other attributes could influence success.
Using an analytical software and pre-award data from the University of Tasmania, we explore how submission date, application complexity, grant size, and the number of reviews impact the likelihood of successful funding. This analysis provides valuable insights for research managers, including the importance of timely submission of draft applications to the pre-award team and the importance of quality draft applications.
In summary, this analysis provides actionable insights for research managers, contributing to a win-win situation by improving success rates while reducing the pre-award team’s workload. This information was originally presented at the 2024 ARMS Conference in Darwin.
