Research Impact SIG Networking Session - Thursday 31 October 2024
The ARMS Research Impact Special Interest Group (RI-SIG) continues to deliver its monthly networking sessions on the last Thursday of each month from 12-1pm AEST/AEDT.
On the 31st of October the SIG invites colleagues from both the Research Information and Reporting and Ethics and Research Integrity SIGs to join this informative session.
We have organised for Professor Cameron Neylon to speak to us with the focus being the experience of CoARA and sharing the practical experience of becoming a signatory.
Professor Cameron Neylon will reflect on Curtin Open Knowledge Initiative's milestone of becoming the first Australian signatory of the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment (CoARA). CoARA is at the forefront of redefining assessment practices for research, researchers, and research-performing organisations, aiming to enhance the quality and impact of research globally.
Professor Neylon, is co-lead of the Curtin Open Knowledge Initiative a founder of the FORCE11 international community on research communication and an author of documents including the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure and the altmetrics manifesto. In this session, he will share insights from his work with the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information and discuss the broader international movement towards improved research assessment. Movement in the international space includes CoARA itself, the UNESCO Open Science Recommendations, the Leiden Ranking Open Edition and other significant shifts in research information and evaluation, particularly in Europe. In the Australian context he will also highlight how CoARA's principles align with the Australian Universities Accord to foster lasting and transformative reform in Australasia’s higher education system.
This session is designed to provide a foundational understanding of the significance of these initiatives, the global context in which they operate, and practical strategies for balancing strategic goals with the implementation of CoARA at organisations.
