The ARMS SA Chapter is “Serving up Research Management I.C.E.” – Integrity, Compliance and Ethics!
The SA Chapter invites you to our upcoming panel & networking event 2-4:30 pm on May 24th. Hear from our panel of research managers from across the sector, speaking on contemporary issues ranging from managing the use of AI in research, to student and researcher training; as well as an open discussion on the topic of “A national office for research integrity – do we need one?” Then, enjoy the chance to network and catch up with colleagues over drinks & nibbles!

Mr Hendryk Flaegel
Manager, Research Ethics and Compliance, Research Development and Support, Flinders University
Hendryk is the current Manager, Research Ethics, Integrity & Compliance at Flinders University. For nearly 15 years, he has worked with Research Ethics Committees and provided detailed advice to Committee members and applicants. He has also been involved in numerous research integrity investigations and provided advice in relation to research integrity matters such as authorship disputes and other potential breaches of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.
Associate Professor David Foster, PhD

Chair CSIRO Health and Medical Human Research Ethics Committee
David Foster is Associate Professor at the University of South Australia (UniSA) in Clinical and Health Sciences, where he teaches into courses across a range of programs. His research focusses optimisation of pharmacotherapeutic treatment of patients through understanding the factors that are responsible for differences in response to medicines between people. This employs pharmacometric analyses (modelling and simulation) as a tool to translate basic and clinical research into improved pharmacotherapeutic use. David leads the Pharmacometrics research group at UniSA in the Australian Centre for Precision Health and is the immediate past president of the Population Approach Group of Australia and New Zealand which represents pharmacometrics in Australasia. He has served the Therapeutics Goods Administration as a member of the Pharmaceutical Sub-Committee of the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee, and as an expert adviser to the Pharmacometrics Working Party and the Australian Committee on Medicines. Having worked with several human research ethics committees, in 2024 David was appointed as Chair of the CSIRO national Health and Medical Human Research Ethics Committee and Research Integrity Advisor for Clinical and Health Sciences at UniSA.
Rebekah O’Shea
Research Assurance Services
Rebekah has experience in varied research and professional roles spanning hospital, university and research institute environments; encompassing the domains of teaching, policy development, risk assessment, and compliance. As Senior Research Integrity Officer at the University of Adelaide for the last 7 years, Rebekah was responsible for the University’s implementation and oversight of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2018) (‘the Code’) and oversaw a network of 25 Research Integrity Advisers. Her key focus was on preventing irresponsible research conduct through the development and provision of policy, training, specialist advice and awareness-raising activities; receiving and managing complaints of research misconduct; and supporting misconduct investigations. Her passion for integrity, responsibility & development led her to establish Research Assurance Services in 2024, where she supports research institutions in their delivery of the highest professional standards.
