PD Sessions @ Zoom

This session will cover key considerations when managing a large research program or centre and the skills and knowledge needed. Attendees will gain insights into how a research program operates, best practices and practical tips, and the challenges around managing a multidisciplinary cross-institutional research program.

A significant focus will also be placed on what makes an excellent manager and transitioning into a program management role from a research office role. Examples will be drawn from an ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre context and will be generally applicable to other national research centres. Presentation will also include Jackie's personal journey from research management to managing a centre and the rewards and skills gained from working as a Business Manager.

Dr. Jackie How completed her PhD in 2015 at The University of Melbourne and after a short stint as a Post Doc, decided to leave the world of academia and assist researchers with grants as casual Grants Officer in the Monash Research Office. She then went into a change management role with Monash Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, where she was charged with mandating and rolling out data management program LabArchives across the 10 Schools. In 2018 she took on a Research and Project Manager role at Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In this role she expanded her knowledge of NHMRC and ARC grants to assisting researchers with larger multidisciplinary grant programs such as ITTCs and MRFFs, as well as manage Faculty-driven projects. In 2020, she transitioned into the role of Centre/Business Manager of the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre of Cryo-electron of Membrane Proteins (CCeMMP; ccemmp.org) where she manages the day-to-day operations and the strategic direction of the Centre.

Dr Davina Dadley-Moore ARM(F) is the Senior Research Manager at Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI). She leads the Monash BDI Research Office, a small team focused on research development and researcher development. She has been the Co-convenor of the ARMS Victorian Chapter Committee since November 2023.

Should your circumstances change, and you are unable to attend this workshop, you must contact ARMSAdmin@researchmanagement.org.au by no later than 10 working days prior to the commencement of the scheduled event. ARMS will refund the full registration fee minus any administrative fees.

Should you cancel less than 10 working days prior to the commencement of this workshop, no refund will be payable but instead you may wish to send a proxy.

ARMS reserve the right to cancel, postpone or re-schedule courses and events due to minimum numbers not being reached or for other unforeseen circumstances.  In the event of a cancellation, ARMS will aim to advise all participants in writing five (5) days prior to the scheduled event and will refund the full registration fee including administrative charges within 30 days after notification.
